TL;DR
  • Enter system size and your quote — subsidy and net cost compute live.
  • The tool applies the slab and the ₹78,000 cap at 3 kW automatically.
  • Optional MNRE benchmark input shows an indicative EPC gross margin.
  • Subsidy is paid to the customer by DBT — you collect the full quote.
  • Benchmark and state add-ons change — verify current figures with your DISCOM.

Disclaimer: Subsidy is computed on the MNRE benchmark, not your quote, and is paid to the customer by DBT after commissioning. The MNRE benchmark cost and any state add-on subsidy change over time and vary by state — these results are estimates. Verify current figures with your DISCOM / state nodal agency before quoting a customer.

How to use the calculator

The calculator answers two questions instantly: how much subsidy a customer gets, and what they actually pay. Enter the system size in kW and your quoted price, and it applies the official PM Surya Ghar slab — ₹30,000/kW to 2 kW, plus ₹18,000 for the third kW, capped at ₹78,000 — then subtracts the subsidy from your quote to show the customer's net cost.

The third field, MNRE benchmark cost, is optional. The subsidy is computed on this benchmark, and entering the current figure for your state lets the tool show an indicative gross margin between your quote and the benchmark. It is left blank by default because the benchmark changes — always plug in the current number. For the full slab logic, see the subsidy amount & slabs guide.

The ₹78,000 cap above 3 kW

The most common surprise is that the subsidy stops growing at 3 kW. The slab reaches ₹78,000 at 3 kW and stays there: a 5 kW system and a 10 kW system both get ₹78,000, not more. The calculator handles this automatically, so the subsidy figure will not move once you go past 3 kW even as the quote and net cost rise.

This matters when you talk to a customer about sizing. A bigger system is often the right call for a high electricity bill — more generation, more savings over 25 years — but the customer should know the subsidy is fixed at ₹78,000. The calculator makes that conversation honest because they can see it on screen.

Why margin against the benchmark matters

Here is the point that protects both your business and your reputation: the subsidy is calculated on the MNRE benchmark, not your quote, so over-quoting does not increase the subsidy. It only increases the customer's net cost. A customer who over-pays feels they got less from the scheme — and that is how complaints and bad reviews start.

Use the benchmark input as a sanity check. If your quote is far above the benchmark, the indicative margin will look large, but you are loading the cost onto the customer, not capturing scheme money. Healthy margin comes from disciplined BOM, labour and overhead — not from inflating the quote. The EPC margins & pricing guide works through a full illustrative P&L for a 3 kW job.

How SuryaHub helps after the calculation

This tool gives you the numbers; turning them into a customer-ready quote is the next step. A branded, professional quote PDF with the subsidy and net cost built in is part of SuryaHub's quotation module — the calculator here deliberately does not fake a PDF download. SuryaHub then runs the job from quote to commissioning to subsidy-claim tracking so the customer's DBT reimbursement is not lost. SuryaHub is pre-revenue; real pilots are Suryantra Energy and RGESPL, and figures here are estimates, not guarantees.

Frequently asked questions

How does the PM Surya Ghar subsidy calculator work?+

You enter the system size in kW and your quoted price in rupees. The calculator applies the official slab — ₹30,000 per kW up to 2 kW, plus ₹18,000 for the third kW, capped at ₹78,000 — to show the central subsidy, then subtracts it from your quote to show the customer’s net cost. You can also enter an MNRE benchmark to see an indicative margin.

How much PM Surya Ghar subsidy does a 3 kW system get?+

A 3 kW system gets ₹78,000 — that is ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW plus ₹18,000 for the third kW. This ₹78,000 is the cap, so any residential system of 3 kW or larger, including 5 kW and 10 kW, receives the same ₹78,000 central subsidy.

Does a bigger quote increase the PM Surya Ghar subsidy?+

No. The subsidy is fixed by the slab and calculated on the MNRE benchmark, not on your quote. A bigger quote does not raise the subsidy — it only raises the customer’s net cost. Over-quoting therefore hurts the customer’s benefit from the scheme, not your subsidy, which is why honest pricing against the benchmark matters.

Is this PM Surya Ghar subsidy calculator free?+

Yes, the PM Surya Ghar subsidy calculator is completely free to use, with no sign-up. It runs entirely in your browser. The official scheme registration is also free; the calculator simply applies the published slab and the ₹78,000 cap so you can quote a customer’s net cost in seconds.

Why does the calculator ask for an MNRE benchmark cost?+

The MNRE benchmark is the basis the subsidy is computed on, and it is also a useful sanity check on your pricing. Entering it lets the calculator show an indicative gross margin between your quote and the benchmark. The benchmark changes over time, so it is left blank by default — enter the current figure for your state.

Can the calculator generate a branded quote PDF?+

This free tool does not generate a PDF. A branded, customer-ready quote PDF with the subsidy and net cost built in is part of SuryaHub’s quotation module. SuryaHub is pre-revenue; real pilots are Suryantra Energy and RGESPL. Book a demo to see the full quoting workflow.
